    Description

A rare survivor from early WW2. A pair of Cotton Khaki Trousers 1937-41 Stock No. 55-7-12400 thru 12650 . Please note the early metal buttons and the outward facing double stitched seams as well as no gas flap. The production of this type started in 1937 as a replacement for the breeches and was intended for non combat tropical areas. Then as the pace of recruitment outgrew production in 1941,  the army switched to single seam so the retail machines could produce the needed quantities. This type was quickly used up and by the end of the war there were not many pairs left. This pair is size 30" X 34" and is heavily stained . I was unable to find a tag. This pair belonged to a mechanic who served in Australia and the Philippines from 1942 on.
