Description
****Here is a very large, very nice group of WW2 Era United States Army Air Force items named to a Major Don E. Lieber. Major Lieber was part of a select group of US Army Air Force pilots who flew Over China, Burma, and India, CBI. In this lot, there is a knit top and a knit sweater from the college he attended, The University of Wyoming. With this are prints of the graduation dinner, as well as a "Frat Paddle" from his days in the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, with a few signatures from his buddies. Moving onto his military career, he enlisted into the United States Army Air Force, and was trained to be a pilot. In his service as an officer, he flew 85 missions over the treacherous Himalayas, From India, over Burma, and into China. During his service, he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross as well as many other medals in his time in the service. This group has his original flight bag, which looks to be in very solid condition with standard wear, and a stain on the interior. This lot also has as a custom pillow that many of this pilots had made to commemorate their service for surviving the intense missions. There is also a set of original signal flags, with multiple poles and flags in the original carry bag. The flags all look to have little stains, but are intact. A few of his dress uniforms are preset, with his early rank insignia of Lieutenant present on some of his uniforms. They transform to show the rank devices for his final rank of Major. All of his uniforms are in very good condition, with his visor cap with the large American Eagle insignia on the peak having a dry, crumbling foam band which is in place to keep the cap rigid. There is a mostly complete toiletries set in a very thin bakelite or celluloid, tucked into a hard holder to hold the empty shells. Unfortunately, one that looks as it once held a razor does have a bit of missing material, with a crack in it while the others are in tact. Many of his flight records are present, dating from his early days in the military to his later years after WW2. He would soon join with the Civil Air Patrol, and eventually continue with his military service in the Officer's Reserve Corps for the next 25 years of his life, where he would finally reach the highly respected rank of Major. Major Don E. Lieber officially retired from the Air Force on February 6th, 1983. This Great American was born on February 6th, 1923, the same day he officially retired. He passed away on March 7th, 2012. This large lot carries his legacy, from his days as a frat boy, all the way up until his respected retirement................See Images****
