    Description

Up for bid is a grouping of items belonging to a named US Marine.  The grouping contains most of his dress uniform from overcoat, dress jacket, pants, and overseas cap.  Every piece is named to him.  Also included is a document from him, a photocopied picture showing him and fellow Marines all named, a Japanese book that looks like it's to the WWII time period (bringback?) and some items from a trip post war to Japan.  Also included is a booklet that has some information on him from the New York State Senate Veteran's Hall of Fame induction in 2017.  However,  The neatest thing about this grouping is that Marine was interviewed by the Library of Congress and his 152 minute interview can be found by searching Veterans History Project and then his name in the search.  There is a two part video of his interview.  Check here

A little about the Marine:  He was 17 when he enlisted in the USMC in October 1943.  He was part of a 60 and then 81 mm Mortar team in training at Camp Pendleton.  He then left Hawaii in January 1945 and sailed to Iwo Jima.  He was a member of the Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment, 5th Marine Division.  He fought during the battle and his battalion alone had 989 casualties.  He was discharged in May 1946 and in 1970, returned to Iwo Jima on a trip.  He was elected into the New York State Senate Veteran's Hall of Fame.
