    Description
    ?This is an ORIGINAL example of the RARE "M1945" Jungle Combat Jacket/Shirt developed and standardized by the Quartermaster Corps in July, 1945.  The development of this alternative to the hot, uncomfortable one-piece camouflage jungle coveralls and two-piece camouflage uniform is described in "Clothing The Soldier of World War II", a QMC Historical Study, at pages 72-77 (reprints of the publication are available from George Petersen, aka "National Capitol Historical Sales", in Alexandria, VA).  Several other types of experimental jungle uniforms which were tested are discussed and pictured in postings on the US Militaria Forum, entitled "Experimental US Army Uniform", dated January 17, 2017, and "Is This An Experimental WWII Uniform?", dated August 19, 2014, most of which appear to be earlier variations manufactured during testing in the US and the Pacific Theater, which are also discussed in the QMC Historical Study.
    This jacket/shirt, however, is the final version of the jungle combat uniform which was standardized.   The monograph describes the jacket as being made of 5-ounce cotton poplin fabric in the olive drab shade #7, with the following features:  (1) Gas flap; (2) Two breast pockets with flaps having concealed buttonhole tabs; (3) A continuous packet for buttoning; and (4) Gusseted gas flap cuffs with two buttons (see close-up images of these features). [Historical Study,Page 76] The jacket is in very good condition, with minor soiling in a few spots.  The OD#7 color is strong and shows up more accurately in the non-flash images.  All buttons are present and the QM size tag, shows it to be a size 38 regular, but as usual, it is greatly over-sized.   The actual measurements of the jacket are as follows: Chest 22"; Sleeves 24"; Shoulders 19.5"; and Overall 33.5".  Unfortunately, I was never been able to obtain the jungle pants which was the other element of this uniform.  These uniforms were probably surplused out after the War or given to the French in their ill-fated war in Viet Nam in the 50's and, thus, few remain in existence.
    This is a great opportunity for the advanced uniform collector to obtain a rare late-War jungle combat shirt which was produced in small numbers due to the end of the War so soon after its standardization.  The buyer will have my usual unconditional guarantee of authenticity and a five-day right of inspection and return/refund privilege, excluding postage.
