Description
This is without doubt the nicest ORIGINAL M1926 NCO gabardine twill four-pocket blouse I collected in the last 30 years.  I purchased this blouse from the late, great Manion's International Auction back on December 3, 1994.  This blouse was apparently private-tailored, as befits a "lifer" first sergeant, but I could not find a maker label to verify that. The blouse is fully-lined in brown cotton twill and has the typical period striped lining in the sleeves (see image below).
The blouse is conservatively a size 44-46
. I normally wear a 44-46 regular size jacket and it comfortably fit me.  The blouse has the following actual measurements measured flat: Chest: 24"; Sleeves: 25"; Waist: 22.5"; Shoulders: 19"; and Overall Length: 36". The blouse is in VERY GOOD+ used condition and has no mothing, holes, tears or other blemishes! The sides have the belt hooks present, ready to hang a "garrison belt" of the period as the finishing touch!
Best of all is plethora of original insignia that this "Top" wore on his blouse, as follows:  (1) Regimental shoulder loops for the 7th Infantry Regiment (?)
If anyone out there can verify which of the four WWI regiments of the 3rd ID these loops are for, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you!
; (2) 3rd Infantry Division shoulder sleeve insigne made of blue velvet and embroidered "tape"; (3) Wool-on-wool OD  stripes and rockers on blue/black wool felt 1st SGT rank insignia, attached with the cross-stitched thread of the pre-WWII period; (4) Three WWI overseas chevrons in gold bullion thread on wool fabric; (5) SEVEN (7) wool-on-wool reenlistment stripes (21 years!) on dark blue/black wool felt; and (6) A WWI campaign ribbon.  At some point, Top removed his "US" and branch of service collar disks, leaving the holes in the lapels exposed. Top apparently left the service before WWII, say 1938-39, and either bought a new M1938/1942 blouse or didn't re-up during the War. Too bad he didn't put his name in the blouse, but I guess he figured no one would have the guts to steal it!
Here's an opportunity for the 3rd ID collector or reenactor to obtain one of the most interesting NCO blouses in my collection!  The buyer will have my usual five-day  (
not the 14-days that they insert in my listings without my consent
) right of inspection and return/refund privilege, excluding postage. However, the buyer won't be disappointed by this great blouse in a "human" size!
