Description
?This is an ORIGINAL Army Air Force Type B-11 Winter Flying Parka or "Jacket", as worn in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands during WWII.  According to the late Glen Sweeting's Combat Flying Clothing (page 49), the B-11 was developed to replace the older shearling leather B-7 "Alaska Suit". The Type B-11 Jacket was standardized in 1943, along with the companion Type A-10 Flight Pants.
The B-11 jacket is made of olive drab shade No. 7 cotton poplin fabric, with an alpaca wool lining, closed by both buttons and a Talon brand zipper. A mouton wool lining was provided in the hood and chin collar. The jacket is in VG+ condition, but has a small 1/4" hole on the lower left and fraying at the cuffs (see images below). The jacket has two "slash" pockets and two lower flapped pockets. According to the QM tag, the jacket was manufactured by the W&C Clothing Co. and is a generous size 42" chest.
The Type A-10 pants which are in NEAR MINT condition are also made of olive drab No. 7 cotton poplin fabric with an alpaca wool lining.  The pants were also manufactured by W&C Clothing Co. according to the QM tag, which describes them as "Type A-10".  The pants are a generous size 38" waist. The pants have three leg flapped pockets  two hip pockets, an access slit and side pocket on each side seam and two flapped pockets on the seat.  The pants have a pair of AAF-issue suspenders. The pants have a button fly, with a large AAF insigne to the left of the fly.  The pants also have large belt loops around the waist.
Here's an opportunity for the AAF collector or re-enactor to obtain a B-11/A-10 flying suit in "human sizes". The buyer will have my usual unconditional guarantee of authenticity and a five-day (
