    Description

The heavy, solid metal stamp shows the reverse side of the original civilian grade War Merit Cross awarded to citizens of Germany for meritorious service "in furtherance of the war effort".
Given that this is in high relief I can only assume that this stamp was used to create the mold for the castings, probably by the manufacturer and/or jewelers responsible for the awards.  It was also likely used years later for the veterans in 1957 when the new award was approved so they would be able to wear their award on their uniforms.
There appears to be some kind of lot number on the side written in white paint, probably as a classification number used in the manufacturing process.
A very rare, possibly almost unique item of German WW2 history.  I am not sure but can only guess that there is probably only a few of these still in existence.
