    Description

"The US Army introduced a service coat with open collars and peaked lapels in 1926. It was also part of the field uniform until 1941 when the new cotton field jacket was adopted. The first pattern, approved in 1939 and standardized in 1940 had a partial lining, a pleated back for ease of movement, and a half belt and belt hooks. The hooks were eliminated in March of 1941, together with the russet leather garrison belt. The service coat not being part of the field uniform anymore, the back pleats were deleted in June 1942." See "GI Collector's Guide. page 28.
This example is of the first pattern of 1939, featuring the half lining, half belt and brass belt hooks. It was manufactured by Dundee Clothes on April 1, 1941, and is a size 35 Regular. This example was manufactured after the change that removed the half belt and hooks. This would have occurred because Dundee would have received the order to produce this jacket (and were probably well underway completing this run) before the uniform regulation changed. The spec label has the inspector name of "Morris Klein" - seeing an inspector name on a spec label can be infrequent at best. Although void of any insignia, it's still an interesting jacket.
The uniform remains in fair condition, showing signs of age, use, and wear. There are quite a few areas of insect damage, but overall displays very well. All buttons are present. Please see the pictures for more detail.
