    Description

Up for offer is a small grouping belonging to Michael Robert Stacey. Who was killed in action at the battle of Okinawa. The grouping consists of Original WW2 Portrait, Plaque with newspaper article given to the family, commemorative dog tags given to the family, and full service file. Here’s Michaels story:
Michael enlisted August 14th, 1944 in the Marines at the age of 17. He was sent to boot camp when he turned 18 on October 28th, 1944. After boot camp Michael was assigned to Company K, 22nd Marines, 6th Marine Division. Michael would experience his first bit of combat on Okinawa. Michael was sent to Okinawa on May 27th, 1945 with the 22nd Marines. Michael would go through 5 Days of heavy combat with Company K and on June 1st, 1945 Michael would take a gun shot to the head and would be killed instantly. Michael would be buried in the 6th Marine Division Cemetery #1 grave #517. Michaels parents would send multiple letters to the General and Senator trying to get his body home, but they weren't able to bring him home in 1946 due to a lack of caskets. I'm not sure what year Michael was brought home to Illinois, but he was brought back to his hometown and buried. Michael would be awarded the Purple Heart, Asiatic - Pacific Campaign, and World War II Victory Medal. May you Rest in Peace Michael.
