    Description

US Marine Corps fighter and bomber pilots of WW2 flew close air support for Gyrenes on the ground, attacked Japanese shipping, troop transports, and shore installations, and defended the US Navy fleet from marauding Zeros and eventually kamikazes. USMC aviators of WW2 frequently took off from primitive airstrips in the tropics, and wore khaki cotton (and later lightweight OD nylon) flight uniforms, combined with AN-6530 goggles, A-14 oxygen masks, and "Mae West" life preservers. The variety of flight gear used by those "flying Leathernecks" has been of great interest to collectors for decades, leading Gregory Pons to write an authoritative reference book on the subject in 2012. This "USMC AVIATORS" US WW2 MARINE AVENGER CORSAIR PILOT FLIGHT GEAR REFERENCE BOOK is in MINT, unread, new in the wrapper condition, with absolutely no rips, holes, tears, or damage of any kind. Most interestingly, it boasts elegantly illustrated hardcovers, and sports 191 pages full of descriptive text, period pictures, and color photographs of US Marine Corps aviation history of WW2, including certain notable squadrons and fliers, as well as khaki cotton flight helmets (some with "Volcano" ear cups), M-421A khaki cotton flight jackets, M-426A khaki cotton flight suits, M-422A (later designated the G-1) goatskin leather flight jackets, M-41 field jackets, AN-6530 flight goggles, A-14 oxygen masks, all kinds of "Mae West" life preserver vests, .38 revolver holsters, parachutes and harnesses, life raft survival kits, blood chits, plotting boards and chart maps, and a plethora of other invaluable information. A beautiful example of a "USMC AVIATORS" US WW2 MARINE AVENGER CORSAIR PILOT FLIGHT GEAR REFERENCE BOOK. Now celebrating over 20 years on eBay.
